She was a principal of a high school in the area and the encounter involved problems with settlement of the basement slab in one of their buildings. I would recommend that you contact a local geotechnical engineering firm that is familiar with the problem since you may have to deal with a lot more than a flooded basement. You could start by calling the Civil Engineering Department at Brooklyn Polytech for some guidance.
