ASIAN CONFERENCE ON UNSATURATED SOILS
FROM THEORY TO PRACTICE
18-19 May 2000, Singapore

The Asian Conference on Unsaturated Soils (UNSAT-ASIA 2000) will be held in
Singapore on 18-19 May 2000, organised by the NTU-PWD Geotechnical Research
Centre. The conference proceedings will include 135 papers from 31 countries
covering the following topics related to unsaturated soils: Historical
Developments; Fundamentals and Theoretical Developments; Numerical Modelling
(of Flow, Stresses and Deformations); Suction Measurement Techniques;
Soil-Water Characteristics; Permeability and Flow; Mass Transport; Strength
and Deformation; Volume Change (Collapse, Shrinkage and Swelling);
Engineering Applications (Foundations, Roads and Slopes).

The conference will be opened by Mr Tan Sion Leng, CEO of Building Control
Authority of Singapore. Professor Kenji Ishihara, President of ISSMGE will
also give an opening address on behalf of the International Society of Soil
Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering.

An impressive line-up of leading figures in the field of unsaturated soils
will be giving keynote lectures. The keynote lecturers, and the topics of
their lectures, are:

immediately preceding the Asian Conference on Unsaturated Soils.
