A qualitative description of soil moisture content is obtained by comparing the instrument reading with a color-coded chart. This instrument responded reasonably well to changes in soil moisture content except at one site where its response was poor. It is very inexpensive and easy to operate." http://www.sowacs.com\archives\99-08\msg00016.html We used the model 100 analog version several years ago. I was impressed with it's ease of use, durability and relative accuracy when compared with the tried and true "feel" method of estimating soil moisture. It's best suited for farmer use. Tad Wenes of Aquaterr (USA 1-800-284-1024) was a lot of help to us. It's been three years sense I've talked with him. One NZ customer thought it was great, but did some mods to the circuitry to get it calibrated correctly. The principle of operation is capacitive. We found the cost was about the the same, maybe a bit more from memory as Soilmoistures Quickdraw, which is a very good portable tensiometer. Usability was about the same, without all the calibration issues, batteries etc. Just an opinion. ========================================================== Met Instruments meteorological scientific instruments P O Box 46 Fax ++64 6 364 7213 Otaki Railway Ph. ++64 6 364 7254 Otaki New Zealand email metco@geeko.co.nz Visit http://www.geeko.co.nz for weather, herbs, toys & more ========================================================== ----- Original Message ----- From: <owner-sowacs@aqua.ccwr.ac.za> Sent: Monday, August 23, 1999 10:31 PM Subject:: Information on Aquaterr 200 Soil Moisture Meter > > One of my clients recently brought to my attention a soil moisture > measurement device sold by Spectrum Technologies called the Aquaterr 200 > Soil Moisture Meter.
