Christchurch New Zealand Press Information The Garnett Group 3 Water Lane Bradford BD1 2JL Garnett Group Acquires Streat Instruments The Garnett Group of Associated Companies, UK, has acquired Streat Instruments, the well-known manufacturer of moisture measurement equipment, based in Christchurch New Zealand. The sale, signed this week in Christchurch between Garth Streat, founder of Streat Group and Alan Brydon, Chief Executive of the Garnett Group is the result of a long and successful association between the two organisations during which time both have grown their portfolios and broadened their international market presence. Garth Streat, who founded the business in 1964, commented "This is a very satisfying outcome for both Alan and me personally, being a major step forward in the cordial and productive relationship we have enjoyed for many years now. Our business relationship will continue, with Garnett representing in the UK one of our other companies, Streat Automation Ltd." The Garnett Group includes Garnett Controls Ltd, manufacturers of on-line weight control equipment such as the Rollaweigh system and well as general machine controls; Wira Instrumentation, manufacturers of laboratory instruments; B4, a technology sales company specialising in nonwovens and innovative processing; and Envirofactors, a European distributor of environmental instrumentation whose client base includes a host of major sports clubs and stadiums such as Leeds United and the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff. Alan Brydon commented "This is a very exciting development for us; we have worked very closely with Streat for many years so we know each other well. We have been jointly working on new areas such as the development, manufacture and distribution of the Aquaflex soil moisture measurement sensor, which is now widely used in agriculture and sports applications internationally. The new structure will help us further develop these new markets and consolidate our strengths. Streat Products fits perfectly within our organisation and we look forward to continuing further joint developments for a number of different market sectors" Streat, well known internationally for moisture measurement in textiles has gained an increasing share of other markets including food, agriculture, and medical applications, whilst the activities of Garnett are becoming similarly diverse. Jim Herbison has been appointed Managing Director of the New Zealand operation, which will continue to be based in Christchurch. Steve Krenek becomes Technical Director. The Automation Division of Streat Instruments will remain in Streat Group, trading as Streat Automation Ltd, to provide industry with process control and information systems including Scourcom. Garnett controls will continue to represent Streat Automation in the UK. "We consider the difference in time zone between New Zealand and the UK to be a distinct advantage." Commented Alan Brydon, "It gives us virtual, round the clock operation, which has an important influence on customer support and joint development work. The internet has provided us with a seamless communications channel for many aspects of our interaction and this has proven to be extremely effective."
