Each type of sensor has it effective range and accuracy over that range. You should look at the literature on the various sensors. A fairly good general reference (but older) is Ground Water Monitoring Technology by Robert D. Morrison, and published by TIMCO MFG. INC, 1983 or the EPA document Subsurface Characterization and Monitoring Techniques, A DESK REFERENCE GUIDE, Vol II. The vadose zone, field screening and analytical methods appendicies C and D , EPA/625/R-93/003b, 1993.
