Hi,
You are not looking in the right places.
TDR instruments with selectable pulse lengths and rise and fall times are in
use world-wide.
Short pulses with sharp rise and fall times are attenuated severely, so that
for checking on longer cables, the pulse length and rise and fall times must
be lengthened. It all depends on how long the cable to be measured is.
200Km? 20m? These are all available. Impedance of the cable? All selectable.
Please check nearest to you with the telephone, TV distribution, and power
(as in mains) companies. These people use it daily, and could advise you
best for your locality. You might perhaps even try some of their instruments
before you make a final choice.
