RE: SOWACS: pavement moisture monitoring

Dear Jason:

With regard to your query - may I suggest you contact Eijkelkamp Agrisearch
Equipment www.eijkelkamp.com (who indeed do have a distributor in OZ) and
talk to them about their Article 14.26 Soil Moisture measuring system -
perfect for the job at hand. The standard instrument is hand held - but
there is a possibility for adding a datalogger if that would be preferable!

[Bruce comments: I have not heard of this sensor, nor could I find it
on the Eijkelkamp site - can anyone offer any more info?
Is this the Thetaprobe mentioned in these two pages?

I am the the Southern African distributor so I cannot help you directly -
but contact Mr. Alle van Calker mailto:export@eijkelkamp.com and he will put
you in touch with the local distributor on your country.

Good luck!

Subject: SOWACS: pavement moisture monitoring

I am a PhD student in Western Australia studying the variation in
unstabilised granular pavement structural capacity through seasonal
cycles.

I am looking for a moisture monitoring device/sensor that I can install
permanently into the various pavement layers and subgrades. I would
intend on taking readings every week or so depending on the weather for
a couple of years.

The sensor would obviously need to be able to be buried. The cable(s)
would then be channelled to the side of the road away from any traffic.

Can anyone recommend equipment that would be useful in this situation?

Any responses will be greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Jason Gray
