Gypsum blocks breakdown due to soil chemistry, and dissolution. Soil pH is more a concern with these sensors. They are good for 1-3 years. I suggest you consider a Virrib sensor for low cost soil moisture information. The main disadvantage of Virrib is that you have to dig a hole to install them. If you have already accepted that reality then this is the best low cost sensor available for a wide range of soil conditions. John
