SOWACS members, I was recently asked to review a memo regarding wetlands ET. The memo concerns estimation of ET of wetlands in the Sacramento/San Joaquin Delta in central California. The estimates rely heavily, if not completely, on a study done by Richard G. Allen, Utah State University, PREDICTING EVAPOTRANSPIRATION DEMANDS FOR WETLANDS. Question 1. I am assuming, from what I read in the study, that evaporation from the open water area of a wetland is calculated separately from the vegetated area. Is this correct? Question 2. On the FAO style curve does the Kc end represent the period from start to Kc ini? Meaning does it apply for the whole winter (dormant) season? Question 3. Now for the big question. The Kc's given in the paper are for an Alfalfa reference crop. My understanding is that Alfalfa gives a higher reference than grass. Is there a way to convert Kc's based developed for alfalfa reference to, as used in California, a grass reference?
