As the host of SOWACS (administrator of the Majordomo listserver which
runs SOWACS), may I put in my pennyworth regarding Bruce's desire to
unmoderate SOWACS.
Reluctantly, I do not run ANY unmoderated lists. The hassle factor is
too great.
I could go into a long academic explanation, justification,
deconstruction, reconstruction, redeployment, transparent justification
for this decision, but will spare you; by giving a short one.
My experience of ignorance, spamming and cracking on the Internet
tells me that moderated lists are the only way to go!
FURTHER - SOWACS is one of the few successful lists I know of. The
signal to noise ratio is pretty high. That, in my opinion, is mainly
due to the fact that the list is owned by the sensible, enthusiastic
Bruce Metelerkamp.
Unfortunately there is no such thing as a free lunch - and
moderation is the price that has to be paid for the decent meals you
all get at SOWACS.
The 3 alternatives as far as I am concerned are:
1. Continue as you are.
2. Find a new moderator.
3. Find another host for an unmoderated SOWACS and have everybody
unsubscribe because of the increasing amount of junk mail -
most of it generated by members who can't even unsubscribe properly.

Well I guess that settles it - sowacs will continue as is - moderated, thus
ensuring the quality of posts (if not always the quick turn around time -
since each post must be individually moderated and forwarded to sowacs.)
