re: measurement in irrigated plantations

Several years ago, Dr. Roy Sachs of University of California did some work on
this utilizing an automatic irrigation system driven by soil water potential
and controlled by the IRROMETER Model "RA" swithching tensiometer. I do not
recall seeing anything published and I believe that Dr. Sachs is now retired.
But I have copied here one of his colleagues at the Davis campus, Dr. J.
Heiner Lieth, who may have access to some of this information, if you would
like to request it from him. We could today do much the same with the
WATERMARK sensor and its switching interface (Watermark Electronic Module) to
control valve operation based on a preset level of soil moisture status. Hope
this is useful to you.
Regards, Bill Pogue, President, Irrometer Company Inc.
P.S. One of our bulletins on the use of soil moisture measurement in
microirrigation systems contains a good bit on how to do this, and can be
accessed on the Microirrigation Forum at: http://mif.org/irrom.html

 Sowacs:

 I have two questions:

 1)	I am chasing information about irrigated eucalypt plantations. I am
not interested in effluent irrigation. If members are involved in this
activity I am interested in further discussion with particular reference to
 water use and growth rates.

As an extension to this question (and the main interest of sowacs)

 2)	people who are irrigating trees - I am interested in the techniques
 you use for irrigation scheduling?

Information on these questions will be greatly appreciated.
