[Welcome to Alan and colleagues to sowacs; it looks like an excellent resource: Bruce] Hi. I would like to introduce myself. I do research on soil moisture and its relationship to climate change. I work with Konstantin Vinnikov, G. Srinivasan, and Lifeng Luo. We study the temporal and spatial scales of soil moisture variations, remote sensing of soil moisture, climate model evaluation, modeling of soil moisture, and design of soil moisture networks. Our particular approach is to use actual measurements of soil moisture for this work. To that end, we have established the Global Soil Moisture Data Bank: http://climate.envsci.rutgers.edu/soil_moisture/ which contains an archive of over 400 long-term (> 5 years) measurements of soil moisture. It also contains a list of our publications and copies of many of them. Most of measurements are gravimetric, but some are neutron probe. I would like to invite you all to visit the web site, send us any comments, and especially, to contribute your own data sets so that the climatological community can use them in our work. Thanks very much.
