Greetings from Delta-T Devices to all members of the Sowacs discussion
group. You may have already spotted our presence in the "Products" and
"Sensors" sections of the Sowacs web site, but with the launch today of
our own SOWACS FEATURE we can claim to have truly arrived. The Feature
provides an introduction to Delta-T's sensors and loggers for soil water
measurement (and a glimpse of the wider range of environmental science
products that we offer).
The best known Delta-T sensor in the Feature is undoubtedly the
ThetaProbe type ML2x. It is accurate, easy to use and gives dependable
readings of soil water content, even in traditionally difficult to
measure soils, notably clay. This has made it a popular choice for many
researchers, and thousands of ThetaProbes are in use in all over the
world. Recent comparative evaluations lend support to their choice (see
the "Comparisons" Section of the Sowacs site for further information).
The Feature includes our newest sensor, the SigmaProbe type EC1. It
provides the only known method of sampling the conductivity of pore
water directly in the soil - and it's portable. With laborious
conventional techniques it is not possible to obtain spot readings of
pore water conductivity, but with the SigmaProbe, readings can be taken
in just 5 seconds. The probe was developed in co-operation with
IMAG-DLO, Wageningen, The Netherlands.
It is also worth having a look at the Delta-T Sowacs Feature if you are
interested in soil water (matric) potential, evapotranspiration, or sap
flow measurement.
Delta-T is an active supporter of Sowacs and looks forward to further
involvement in its development as a resource for the research community.
