Dear Mike and others, Thanks for jumping in Mike, I was thinking you had something to add. Your comments about the distance per division (DIST/DIV) setting are true only if the probe length remains the same. A longer probe will require a larger DIST/DIV setting to keep the entire wave form on the screen. As long as the DIST/DIV setting and probe length change hand in hand there is no difference in resolution. I know that you know this, but others might misinterpret your remark. In actual practice the relative propogation velocity setting (Vp) can be changed as well, to fine tune the wave form apparent length on the screen, so that maximum resolution and precison of measured travel times is achieved. All this relates to use of the Tektronix cable testers and may not correspond exactly to the settings available on other TDR devices.
