SOWACS --> YES, we're still here!
The inactivity on Sowacs recently has led some to worry as to our
demise! Worry no more (if you are getting this, that is)!
Please also contribute news and opinion to sowacs to keep it
interesting for all.
DON'T FORGET TO VISIT THE SoWaCS WEB PAGES TO SEE WHAT HAS BEEN
DISCUSSED IN THE PAST - ESPECIALLY THOSE NEWER SUBSCRIBERS.

Two matters of business today.
1/ The Wateronline web site: strictly it has all to do with waste
water and related issues (and very little to do with soil water
content sensing as far as I could find), but a huge site, and
very hard to compete with! (Also the speed of the site was
blisteringly good on the day I visited.) The discussion forum
feature looks great, but I still feel that a dedicated mailing
list is superior. [See ad below]. I publicised sowacs on one of
these fora, so we will see how far it reaches.

2/ Acoustic methods of measuring soil physical properties.
I have recently become aware of the work of Sabatier (et al.) who
have for a number of years been working on using microphones and
physics to infer various soil physical properties ( - hopefully
soil water content will be among them in years to come). It is
apparently still a developing field as far as I could find out,
but to read more visit the list of references I was kindly sent
by Brian Mortimer of the Cape Tech at
http://www.icfrnet.unp.ac.za/~metele/sowacs/acoustic.html
Anyone with any enlightening info on this or other, please
circulate to sowacs or myself.

=====
COMMERCIAL PAGES
I am still welcoming brief notices from commercial companies that
supply sowacs equipment if yours is not already in place on the
sowacs suplier directory.
TAKEOVER
I am negotiating with several parties with regards to taking over
sowacs and the running of the web page and/or the discussion
list. (I am moving jobs and countries next year - and AM
CURRENTLY LOOKING FOR EMPLOYMENT IN NEW ZEALAND, btw, [plug,
plug]!) It's my list and I'll advertise if I want to!?!
