New Technology Simplifies Irrigation Scheduling

Wenatchee, WA. ..It has always been effective. Now the only irrigation scheduling/soil monitoring system with fully scheduling software (PRISM - ISS) is also easier to use.
Irrigation Scheduling Methods, Inc. (ISM), has developed a new portable hand held data logger ( PRISM - CMP) that makes their irrigation scheduling and soil moisture monitoring system faster and very user friendly.

This newly designed hand held data logger will work with your desktop or laptop computer, which then downloads into the PRISM - ISS (Irrigation Scheduling Software). PRISM will then analyze the field moisture data and provide reports. This system provides nearly effortless two-way transfer communication, and uses rechargeable batteries. It's a system developed by a farmer for farmers.

"This new portable data logger makes irrigation scheduling and it's benefits accessible to more people, " said Mike Mrachek, orchardist, wine grape grower and ISM founder. "Once the system is set up, collecting the data becomes, basically, a plug-and-play system for irrigators. ISM has made it that simple.

This new piece of equipment takes Mike Mrachek, who is also a Soil Scientist and Horticulturist, one more step on the road to helping farmers irrigate efficiently. It's a road he started on his own in the mid 80's while working with growers for a Washington State fruit packer, and on his own orchards.

"I started using it on my own orchard because I was making big mistakes with irrigation and it was costing me a lot of money in quantity and quality," Mrachek said. "Soil monitoring and irrigation scheduling turned out to be more important than I ever dreamed in crop production. I wanted to offer what I learned available to others."

The ISM system is now used domestically and internationally on a variety of crops. It works with the Troxler 200AP capacitance non-nuclear portable probe. The new portable data logger collects information from a number of access sites located in critical optimal areas, down loads the field moisture and generates easy to read reports and graphs.

ISM has also developed a uniquely computer program to simplify calibrating the Troxler 200AP probe for different soil types. The new program is incorporated into PRISM software. "Soil calibrations are the key to effective scheduling," Mrachek said. "When the probe came from the factory, it had only one calibration for sand. My soil is predominantly clay."

"Irrigation scheduling is of increasing importance as farmer's struggle with water issues on one hand and the need to produce high-quality crops on the other," Mrachek said. The ISM Irrigation Scheduling System makes it possible for farmers to control best water management practices as well as soil moisture monitoring without over watering or stressing plants. For a reliable water conservation program look no further than Irrigation Scheduling Methods, Inc.
